Considering Characters
#1
Character pages vs Character accounts

No character accounts are allowed on this site.

Because it is a catch all for all sorts of games, things like names and face claims are bound to be duplicated, maybe even by the same people. Makes no sense to have account names as character names in that scenario. It would get impossible to keep up with, and I'm not interested in spending my entire life moderating this site.

Profile is out. I can't make multiple profiles be a thing without some coding knowledge I don't have. Maybe sometime down the line I will care enough to learn how to do that stuff, but I don't think this should be what I focus on.

This leaves webpages or threads. I think I could make threads work, but there are some challenges to consider:

- Backend organization. Just a forum named Characters would work, but it doesn't really serve well for like a searchable database.
-- Do I want a searchable database of characters? If so, I think making people submit their characters to it is the best way to make sure players have complete control on if they appear on the public lists.

- Can I make the thread work in a way that the elements could be used on the forumrow? Since I don't want character accounts, it would deter the people that really like having that character information in the posts from joining the site. If that info could effect that "miniprofile" then it would be the solution. Could be created directly on the character sheet in a hidden section to help avoid making people fill these things out more than once for the character.

- Can I use plugins to help me create posting forms that would make it easier? Making people fill out a complicated template to post isn't going to work. Making people use a posting form that looks like the raw code if you want to edit it won't work. I need them to be inputs like the thread title and description.

- Can I use the posting area like a way to let people personalize their character sheets? Maybe have a default and then in the resources area there can be a place where people can post the codes they develop. I can try to make a couple of options. Player games can make them and ask that the characters in their game use it. I think it could be cute.

- Avatars and graphics will have to be hosted somewhere else. I can't afford to let people upload anything on this shared hosting plan. I'm not expecting this site to take off or get super popular, but I don't want to have to worry about cleaning up old images and keeping the place tidy. The best way to do that is to make people remotely host.

- Need to do research about what kinds of things would be best to put on a basic one. Can maybe have options where you can add more via code if you want, but that could make it more complicated again. I don't want to troubleshoot issues related to coding mishaps.
